A Light Bulb

As soon as I was discovered by Sir Edison & then turned ON ,
A new era in human civilization was born.

I started my journey as a stupendous being ,
But now I have become the most ubiquitous thing.

The isolated stretch without my presence turn into "Office" for the goons ,
While I act as the lone source of confidence to a traveler walking under the moon.

People in the city have totally Nonchalant attitude towards me ,
While still in the villages , I am no less than a Bollywood celebrity.

My mere faint glow in a small cottage puts to delight , faces of many a people ,
But to entertain & amuse others in a disco , I have to constantly dance & wobble.

I may vary in shapes & designs according to different sections of the society ,
But i am equally faithful to my master in bid to ward off any adversity.

People expect me to carry out my duties for an entire lifetime ,
But they never remember to terminate my services even during daytime.

The mighty ships & trains do not move ahead without taking my permission ,
Even the heavenly air-crafts touch the ground under my strict supervision.

While I remain stable in occasions of both prosperity and disaster ,
Only my color shades change as per emotional situation around my master.

Relatives have their heart in the mouth , as long as I glow at operation theatre entrance atop ,
While my Beacon avatar has got the power to put the most busiest places to a Stop.

I am the sole one who has observed every facet of human life ,
Saw the affectionate love of Parents , witnessed the sweet quarrels between husband and wife.

I hereby resolve to be awake and glowing with zeal in heart till that holy day ,
When peace surrounds us all and evils to the human and nature are put to bay.

When like me people stop discriminating on grounds of caste or creed ,
And politicians work devotedly without spreading hatred and greed.

The feelings of light bulb are expressed above in form of a poem.

A Filmy Love Isstory............

A Love Story................

She peeked at me, out of her window every day,

As on the way to tuitions, her house was on the way.

She thought that I did not notice her,

But my heart was struck, since the day I first saw her.

And this went on for days and weeks,

Till we finally got the chance to speak.

We first met at the Grocer’s store,

Where she was bargaining hard to get some more.

She shied off, noticing I was there,

And started biting her nails in despair.

I then politely greeted her,

And she replied back almost as a murmur.

Her modest smile enhanced her beauty,

And her shy behaviour, greeted her modesty.

And just another day in between our talks,

I asked her out in the garden, for a walk.

I had courage mustered up to propose to her in that meet,

But the news of her departure made me retreat.

She said that she was leaving the city,

And I stood still in a state of pity.

I then dropped her home and bid her goodbye,

But it wasn’t easy to hold back the tears in the eyes.

And then on till the day of her departure,

I committed to myself that I wouldn’t ever see her.

But these commitments turned out to be fake,

As my love and feelings were put at stake.

I walked up to her house, to confess to her about my state,

Only to realize that I was a bit too late.

I saw her moving away in a car,

Which i chased till it went too far.

Having completed my studies, I landed up in a job,

But still her thoughts, made the heart to sob

Then one day came up a marriage proposal,

Which I had to accept at my parents’ disposal.

And then came the most important day of my life,

I wished that the girl of my dreams was by my side.

And as I was seated for the marriage rituals,

A beautiful girl walked up by my side.

My would be wife then murmured in my ear,

That you should have run faster that day, my dear.

I started to have feelings as hero of a crap bollywood movie ,

With “Sim - Ran” by my side in full bonhomie.

But the story here was a bit too unique and with no pitfalls,

No Villians , no running after train , no excitement at all .

As I took “Simran’s” palm in my hands , I had goosebumps & soothing sensations,

But my Samsung Phone soon made me realize its  magnitude  of Morning Alarm Vibrations.

THE FIRST MISTAKE …..

My birth moment brought about a dynamic change in my relatives’ expressions,
The atmosphere got transformed from anticipation to frustration.

My initial expressions matched that of each of my relative in the Hospital’s dorm,
The lone one to cry in joy was none other than my mom.

During childhood, people in my locality nurtured me with love & care
But now that I’ve grown mature, I get scared even by their stares.

I’ve now got acquainted with the position of each of the sewage drain in the locality,
But the newspaper gave me light, about the change of lampposts, by the municipality.

The first time I had left home, for pursuing my higher education,
My mother acted sternly that day, in defiance to hide her expressions.

That day, her rolling tears, appeared to move faster than the speed of the train,
And they soon turned uncontrollable as the monsoon rains.

Thereafter she called me several times a day, with conversations not so detailed,
More than her love for me, it was her sense of fear that prevailed.

Before entering into the sacred marriage relationship,
My would-be husband had to be weighed down on a scale of material possession ship.

They say that father gets relieved at the marriage of his daughter,
But the debt he was now under was justly equivalent to his slaughter.

Looking back at life, each moment of it was at other’s stake,
Forcing me to recollect what was My First Mistake?

The First Mistake, more than a poem, is a question put forward to the society, by a modern day girl, who just wants an explanation to few of her questions. She wishes to know that whether she made her gravest mistake by adapting to a number of relationships: daughter, wife or mother, and more than that, dotting each relationship with her utmost love & dedication.

Still today in the 21st century, birth of a girl child, is not welcomed in most of Indian Households. Here the narrator worries about her First Mistake, but the society needs to worry about its mistaken mindset, before it’s too late.

WORTH…………………….

A pinch of salt makes delicious food disappear in matter of a wink,

While an extra bit of it makes all of it go down the sink.

We pass by on the road , being insensitive to oozing pool of other’s blood,

While after shedding few drops of ours , It seems as if we lost our world.

The destitute children get starved for a hug of benovelence ,

While their educated counterparts treat parent’s over affection as interference.

A handful of sand seeping out symbolizes the whole year,

While each passing minute in an exam , prove to be ever so dear.

A tiny matchstick helps us get into the religious sheath,

While the same one’s capable enough to push us seven minutes closer to death.

A bottle of water may be used to flavor the wine,

The same when used in a desert , it’s value goes divine.

We keep fiddling to get the best shoes with utmost deperation,

While people with artificial limb , thank god for this holy invention.

Few doses of drugs guide us go on to be a COOL DUDE,

While two drops of a vaccine ,is enough to save a childhood.

The people guiding us to the Mountain’s top are worthy but probably unreal,

The one’s thumping & pushing you at ground level are one’s blessings and surreal.

THE GIRL OF MY LIFE….……PART - II

As soon as the calendar showed the date one,
My heart started to  thump with thoughts of someone.

Every month she  messaged me upon her arrival,
It brought to the senses , joys of revival.

Though I got angry whenever she got late,
But eventual submission to her had become my fate.

With hushed steps , she quietly moved into my life,
Was dear to me, only next to my wife.

Our affair was well known even to my parents,
They too showered love upon her , proving no deterrent.

She was lean and thin when I was young,
Grew fat and healthy as  time sprung.

Her leanly figure was a sore to the eyes,
And her healthy body brought happiness in disguise.

Her blissful steps drove away all traces of negative radiance,
Every item in house took her permission before thy entrance.

She ever stood by me in moments of distress,
With her help only , I could please my mistress.

Her six letter name served as tonic to my hard work,
My wife being the queen, she being ‘My Lady Luck’.

She served as a measure of my life’s prosperity,
Truly justifying her pompous presence and austerity.

It should better be known the lady talked about is none other than ‘My Monthly Salary’………………..And how she is important in everybody’s life.

A Friend of mine……………………………..

A friend of mine…..,
Benevolent to me as sunshine,
Had strands of hair as porcupine,
Shared baseless ramblings with confidence divine,
Such was a friend of mine…..

We sat for hours over a bottle of wine,
And took depart only once the clock struck nine.

We knew each girl in class, by their name and roll numbers,
Still toiled hard together, to get their phone numbers.

Seated in the library, we evaluated the girls by their looks,
Getting caught in the act, had to scamper for books.

Never to fall for a girl, was the oath we had taken,
But promises, like eggs, were meant to be broken.

For us, getting ready was just a ten minute affair,
Of which, eight minutes were spent in grooming the face and the hair.

We were always  first for food or college bus,
But for labs & classes, we never had the same inrush.

An hour in class seemed like a living hell,
While the same time span in the cafeteria went so well.

We had well in advance planning for outings and trips,
But we always took the exams at our own risks.

We managed our precious time for cricket or football,
But extra classes at college weren’t ever lucky to have our footfall.

Finally the placement season showed its arrival,
And thus began the ultimate battle 0f survival.

We worked out the hardest in our life,
And one could easily see the zeal in our strive.

And thereby passed, life’s phase of transition,
We both had secure decent job positions.

Both of us got placed in different reputed organizations,
The only difference was in their podium positions.

Then came, what eluded us for the last three years,
To my best friend, I was no longer too dear.

Though I got the job most coveted,
But I lost my friend, whom I was closely associated.

Till date nobody dared to seperate  our ways ,
But now bitterness in our relationship had its stay .

On the eve of our graduate valediction,
We were finally able to grease up our friction.

While there was hugs and best wishes all around ,
He expressed his grief through sobs and tears profound.

THE NEWSPAPER

The newspaper is quite an extraordinary invention,
Giving due updates about sports, politics and nation.

Hundreds of Hawkers sacrifice their sleep with glee,
In order to provide flavor to the morning tea.

The Hawkers roll the newspaper into its compact version,
And even tiny spaces of the balcony get hit with pinpoint precision.

The FrontPage tells aloud the dynamic overall summary,
Providing a glimpse of the wider inside story.

The pages get earmarked for different topics,
Last page for sports, page three for rumors and gossips.

Astrology, crosswords and puzzles make it a lively spot,
And each successfully printed page is marked by four colored dots.

Each printed set is a result of dedicated cooperative steam,
The day belonging to Reporters, while night to the printing team.

Prospective Marriage proposals are made through the matrimonial section,
Couples made in Heaven, get united through this medium.

Businessmen keep a STOCK of their current market assets,
While common people get to know their region’s various facets.

Employers look out for people through the Jobs section,
Promptly justifying for the daily, the youth’s profound fascination.

The Newspaper focuses at special occasions and festivals,
Giving deeper insights into relegious history and special rituals.

Some people inform about demise in the family, some about new arrivals,
Making the Newspaper synchronous with life’s destiny cycle.

The Newspaper comes in at but a nominal amount,
The Advertisements resulting in bulk of its revenue count.

Amongst World’s various cultures and Nationalities,
The Newspaper remains the common but ubiquitous entity.

The Newspaper served as a common thread in many great revolutions,
Such is its fate that it still fights terrorism, dowry, infanticide ,and corruption.
